Mary Stuart, which should really be Maria Stuarda as Donizetti’s incorrigible rewriting of English history is sung in its original Italian (English surtitles) in a new Opera North production directed by Antony McDonald. Potentially first-rate musical performance with Guido Johannes Rumstadt conducting, the much acclaimed Sarah Connolly as Mary, Antonia Cifrone as Elizabeth 1 and Bülent Berdüz as Leicester. Grand Theatre, Leeds, Friday, Monday, Thursday (June 10), 7.30pm (£10-£58).
