Gas Meter related work is one of the largest and fastest growing areas in the Gas Industry. Every Domestic and Commercial property in the United Kingdom that uses gas, has a Gas Meter. These Meters have to be changed on a regular basis for public safety and accuracy. Therefore the work is on-going and plentiful.
Specialist companies are contracted to carry out this work, and although they pay well, some find it difficult to hold on to their Gas Operatives. A typical operative would change a minimum of 10 Meters per day at approximately £9.50 each.
A Gas Operative has to be qualified to the minimum level, (CCN1 & MET1), to be able to carry out Gas Meter related work. This can be achieved quite easily, and is seen by many people as a stepping stone, or way in to the industry. The operatives, once trained, usually see other opportunities within the industry, and wish to move on, leaving places again for newly trained people.
The tutors at ECS have played a big part in the introduction of over 800 new entrants to the Gas Industry over the past ten years. ECS have now developed a course which enables the candidate to continue with their current employment, and still train to become a Gas Engineer within a very short period of time, (NE4 Course).
ECS work with classes of a maximum of four candidates, and are therefore able to provide a great deal of one-to one tuition. Unlike many other training organisations, we can also arrange on-the-job training for our candidates to build a portfolio of evidence which is required for their ACS Assessments (CCN1 & MET1).
On completion of the NE4 course, the candidate is expected to find employment and ECS offer further short courses to enhance their career.
